3-Day Marrakech Desert Tour to Merzouga & Back
This itinerary details a captivating 3-day trip from Marrakech that takes you deep into the Sahara desert and returns you to the starting point.
Day 1: Marrakech- Dades Valley
We begin our journey in Marrakech, driving towards Ouarzazate via the dramatic Tizi-N-Tichka pass (2260m) in the High Atlas Mountains. Along the winding road, you will enjoy the beautiful Berber villages and mountain landscapes. Our first major stop is the famous Ait Benhaddou Kasbah, a UNESCO World Heritage site and the largest Kasbah in Morocco, which was once home to many members of the Glaoui family. After lunch at the Kasbah, we continue through Ouarzazate, often called “the Hollywood of Africa,” and follow the road of the thousand Kasbahs, admiring the fascinating sand castles and the city of Kalaat Mgouna (the rose city). We will then proceed to our hotel for the night, nestled in the heart of the Dades Gorge.
Day 2: Dades Gorge- Merzouga Desert
After breakfast, we drive back through the valley to view the amazing rock formation known as “the monkey toes” and the historic 19th-century Kasbah of Ait Yul. Leaving the Dades Valley, we head towards Tinghir and the Todra Valley, enjoying panoramic views of the old mud Berber villages. Upon reaching the Todra Gorge, we’ll walk beneath the 300m high red cliff, a popular spot for rock climbers. we arrive in the desert village of Merzouga, where you will be welcomed with a glass of mint tea before checking into your camp.
Day 3: Merzouga Desert -Marrakech
After an early breakfast, we begin the long drive back to Marrakech. We will follow a different route or retrace our steps through the Draa Valley and over the High Atlas Mountains, making stops for lunch and rest along the way. Your 4-day desert adventure will conclude with your arrival back in Marrakech in the evening.
4-Days tour from Marrakech to Merzouga the Sahara Desert
Day 1: Marrakech- Dades Valley

This day is dedicated to exploring the desert and the surrounding villages. We suggest waking early to catch the stunning sunrise over the dunes near the camp, where you can appreciate the morning breeze and the changing colors of the vast sea of sand.
Next, you will ride your camel from the camp back to Merzouga village for a Berber breakfast and a relaxing shower. We then set out to discover the area, including the colossal Erg Chebbi dunes, which reach heights of up to 250 meters. We will drive to Khamlia village, contemplating the nomadic Berber settlements along the way and stopping to learn about their traditions. The people of Khamlia originate from Mali and Sudan; here, you’ll be welcomed with mint tea and entertained with their spiritual Gnawa music. Afterwards, we will return to your accommodation to relax and enjoy your final afternoon near the desert. Overnight stay will be in the Merzouga area.
Day 4: Merzouga Desert -Marrakech

Start your day with a scenic drive through the Skoura oasis and visit the well-preserved Kasbah Amridil. Travel through the fragrant Valley of Roses and the dramatic Dades Valley before continuing to the spectacular Todra Gorges. Arrive in Merzouga at the edge of the Sahara Desert and check into your desert accommodation.
Day 3: Merzouga Desert – Nomads Families – Khamlia Village – Erg Chebbi.This day is dedicated to discovering the desert and the nomadic villages that surround it. First, we advise you to wake up a little bit early, so as, not to miss the sublime sunrise over the dunes, near the camp. You will appreciate the morning breeze, and the beautiful views of the sea’s sand that change in color.
Next, we will drive peacefully our camel through the desert to Merzouga Village. Arriving in Merzouga, for a Berber breakfast and a relaxing shower. Then, we will discover the highest dunes in the Moroccan desert. Known as Eg-Chebbi dunes, they are a great extension of sand dunes of 250 meters high.
From there, we will continue to Khamlia, contemplating the nomadic Berber villages, and suggesting a stop to learn about their customs and traditions. Upon arrival to Khamlia village, which people are originated from Mali and Sudan. In the first place, you will be welcomed by a cup of mint tea, while sitting back enjoying their spiritual music known as Gnawa. Finally, we will drive back to your accommodation to relax and enjoy the afternoon near the desert. Overnight, will be in the accommodation.
Day 4 : From the Sahara to the High Atlas:

Our journey begins as we leave the desert behind and head toward Alnif, a region famous for its prehistoric fossils and rugged mountain scenery.Afternoon: The Draa Valley & Ancient KasbahsAfter a relaxed lunch in Alnif, we continue through the striking landscapes of the Draa Valley. This stretch is home to the longest river in Morocco and is lined with a “sea of palms.” We will stop at several panoramic viewpoints to admire the centuries-old adobe Kasbahs and fortified Berber villages that have guarded this trade route for generations.Evening:

Morning: The “Hollywood of Africa” & Ait Ben Haddou After breakfast in Ouarzazate, we begin our day with a visit to the world-famous Cinema Studios, where films like Gladiator and Kingdom of Heaven were shot.
Ashort drive takes us to the jewel of the region: the Kasbah Ait Ben Haddou. This UNESCO World Heritage site is the most famous fortified village in Morocco. We will wander through its narrow, winding streets and climb to the granary at the top for a 360-degree view of the surrounding desert hills.
